Judges Can Suspend Your License for Speeding11 Feb
If you were cited for speeding you should know that you could lose your license. Judges in California have the authority to suspend your license:
- for up to thirty days on your first speeding ticket conviction
- for up to sixty days on your second conviction; and
- for up to six months on your third conviction
For many people this is unheard of because you may simply mail in the fine and go to traffic school. For those who choose to fight your tickets this could easily happen to you.
In some counties judges don’t strictly follow this law but actually will suspend your license based on how fast you were driving.
To be fair, I haven’t seen a judge threaten a suspension to keep someone from contesting the citation but watch out because it could happen.
